I will begin by saying that I live in central Texas and have no experience hunting elk.  My friend and I want to put together a fall 2014 elk hunt on public lands in New Mexico or Colorado.  We are looking for suggestions on best areas to consider.  I guess we are more interested in seeing new scenery with higher elk numbers than trophy quality animals.  Thanks for your help.

here's where you start for Colorado, the link below, I personally have been hunting here 6 seasons, I spent the first four doing OTC, last year in a draw unit, I seen more elk than I seen in the previous 5 years combined and heard more no kidding elk bugles in one day than the other 5 seasons combined and I know they weren't other hunters because I could see the elk. This is in a unit that can be drawn with no points, but that doesn't mean you will draw it with no points just that some people do if they are lucky. No, I'm not going to tell you the unit. Start reading everything in the page I'm linking, lots of info, even info on how to read and understand the info even.

Various bows, but if you see me shooting, it's probably a Toelke in my hand!

New Mexico tags are draw unless you get "BUY" a landowner tag.
