I should know this but somehow I've never found out.

When a bowyer incribes a bow, is it written on the bow then finished over, or is it written on after the bow is finished?

Usually before the finish. Some apply one coat, sign, then apply more coats of finish.

I like doing it on the bare wood!

I usually add a coat first before inscribing then finish over that. When I tried to write on bare wood (with a sharpie)it always ran. I have started using India ink lately but still add 1 coat of finish before I inscribe...at least where I'm gonna be writing.   Pat

I decided to shorten the limbs on a bow that I made and applying 1 coat under my inscription made it easier to change the inscription. Nothing is permanent in my world. My 2 cents Brian
