Ive been shooting my SAII quite frequently, and the other day was looking through the owners manual and discovered that it said that as long as you are shooting your bow regularly it is ok to leave it strung. Was just wondering how many of you guys leave your widow recurves strung? And how long do you leave it strung for, days, weeks?

Blackhawk

I leave the recurve strung all the time at home, but I will unstring the BW longbow (per Ken Beck).

I leave mine strung when I shoot it often, like during all of our 3 month hunting seasons.  I unstring it during the off season, when I shoot different bows.

Left my old MA strung up for almost a year. No issues. I do unstring my PLs unless I am shooting it often. Don't EVER leave any bow strung in extremely hot temps.....like in the truck!

I have a SAIII that is 16 years old. It has been strung for that entire time with the exception of the days that I travel on planes for away hunts. I do shoot it often and hunt 12 months out of the year.

Jerry Russell

I would unstring it however if I was not going to shoot it for months at a time.

thanks for the input guys, ill be leaving mine strung more often. Will probably be more tempted to shoot it with it strung all the time as well     :goldtooth:

I've had mine for two months and its been strung the whole time, except for making brace changes.

Jim Boettcher

I've had my current Widow 4 years now, and has been strung the entire time. Only unstring it to change strings or adjust brace height if needed.

I recall reading some place, maybe in the BW manual, that quite a bit of damage is done due to incorrect stringing of a bow.

I asked about leaving them strung when I went down to the BW facility....  They told me they leave all their demo bows strung up 24/7/365....  granted, it is pretty well climatically controlled in the bldg!

Keep'em  strung if you shoot regularly.  I had my old SA II strung for 14 years.  The only time that I unstrung it was to change the string.

Strung, more bows damaged during the stringing process than any other way.

My old MA III was left strung for 5 years. No problems.

In a video one time I saw Ken Beck talking about the "shop" bow being strung from when it was completed to the day the video was filmed....that was 10 years. Now granted that bow was shot 5 or 6 days a week.....but strung for 10 years, most likely still is.

Except to change strings, my MAII has been strung since I brought it home in 1990.
