What part of WA. are you thinking about.

Plenty of bears in Washington.  Fall tags are over the counter and fairly affordable.  Many places to hunt them as well, glassing clearcuts in the coast range or Cascade foothills or hiking into alpine in Cascades are what I would do.  Early to mid-August would be the best time I would think, weather is still good and it's before deer and elk season open.  With such a wide range of choices you need to decide how you want to hunt then go from there.  What are you thinking?  Backpack hunt, car camp, timing, etc.

This is a good place to start:

Shinken

The Blue Mountains are loaded with some *nice* bears, but in the Spring one has to draw a tag.

In the Fall it is over the counter.

Tip:  where one finds elk there will be bear close behind.

Keep the wind in your face!

Shoot straight, Shinken
