Jacques Bonin from here hunted with them,, when I met him he used welchmans and turned me onto them I rememeber he loved the cast with a heavy arrow but maybe he will chime in..

Ok, I have been shooting mine for the past few weeks and I have a second question.  How do I keep from being cut by the fletchings?  Do I have to wear a glove, I have read that just shooting with a higher nocking point will do it.

Anyone that shoots them know a few good tricks?

Yep. 74", 50# ERC of roughly ELB design. Cut in nocks rather than horn nocks though.

google Shawn Woods longbow and view the face book video. Absolutely a great video. A Blacktail buck from the crotch of tree. 70" selfbow primitive arrow and head.

There's a very good chance I'll be hunting with an English longbow this fall. I've recently been on a yew kick, I've got a yew flatbow started and a few good staves set aside for English longbows.

Northwest. Move Your NocksAround A Bit Or Use Different Wing Feathers, Which Will Shift Their Location At The Arrow Rest. Or, Wear A Glove.

Like I said, ELB's just have natural mojo.  I got lucky yesterday and snapped up a YEW John Strunk ELB, 70" 45@28 off the classifieds...it hadn't hardly been up a minute haha..wonders of the iPhone.  I'm glad cause I hated selling that osage Strunk ELB I had, but the 58@27 was not fun to always short draw.  This new one is gonna get some deer or hogs I know it!

My first traditional harvest was a whitetail doe out of a tree stand with a Gary sent an old fashion longbow 65#68" length doe was shot at 15 yards broadside, lung shot deer ran 40 yards. Very quiet bow deer did not know what happened nice experience.

Got a chance to draw one when I visited The Tower of London recently. It drew very easily for its poundage to me.

If I had one in my weight range I wouldn't hesitate to hunt with it.

The two I own are not gonna do it for me as one is very light wt(20 plus) and the other is a favorite of mine as it was a gift from my friend John. (90 plus) Way too much bow for my old shoulders.

God bless,Mudd
