Hey tger's. Looking to purchase a left handed longbow or recurve for my 7 yr old son. ( left eye dominant). Not sure of where to start or what bow length or poundage really would be appropriate for his age. Looking for help and suggestions picking a bow he can enjoy. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

There is one in the St Jude's auction I believe

Mike at 7 Lakes Longbows offers great boys for kids and he even offers bow blanks that you can finish yourself.  I finished one of his full-sized Hill-style bows and I'm very happy with it.  Mike is great to talk to and he will guide in the right direction.

My son will be 7 in august and currently shoots a St Joe River longbow, before that he had a Maddog pup recurve.  Can't go wrong with either bowyer.

Suggestions on length or poundage?

My suggestion from teaching a lot of kids around his age would be 15# at his draw length and somewhere around 52 - 54".

If that bow was a leftie I would bid high. The other bow on the auction says good for 5-8 yr olds and my son is 7 1/2, and a big boy already. I think he would outgrow it in a matter of weeks. Thanks for all the help guys!

I just bought my 3 year old one. There are many fine bowyers to choose from though. I just interviewed Tracey for Stick and String. They are very passionate about their youth line. I like how fun they make their bows to appeal to the young ones. This one is 12#.

I would think a 14 to 16 at his draw length would be a great start. .

That bow is a custom to the kiddo, so it can be leftie as easily as rightie!! LOL

Black rhino bows have many options. Very well built.

These sponsors all make fine youth bows and are to be commended for making them.  A youth bow is just about as much work as an adult bow, but the prices are dirt cheap.

I can also recommend Black Rhino, also a TG sponsor.  Youth bows are their business and they are very good at matching the bow to the new shooter.  Their trade in policy is a pretty good deal, too.
