How do you think the would compare to the 12gpi aluminums I am shooting now?

with a full length shaft and 125 up front, I typically end up with a 650-700 gr. shaft which puts me in the ball park of 12-13 GPI.

Ummm if you guys don't mind answering another question how do you choose the right spine. Would 50# spine be right fpr a 50 lb bow or is there more to it? I am referring to raw shafts here I know you tune them using length and point weight.

That depends on the bows efficiency and how deep it is cut. I am shooting a bow of my own design, cut to barely past center.

At 45# @ 28" it takes 30" -  50-55# shafts with 125 up front.

If your bow is cut deeper it may well take a bit heavier spine...

The converse to what Kenny said is if your bow is not cut to center.  For example, in a 54# @ 28" Hill style longbow that is 1/8" out from center, I use 50 - 55# spine.

Well right now I am shooting a 55lb martin saber taked down recurve. However I am using aluminum with considerable success but I am considering really taking the plunge. Thinking of selling my old motorcycle and reinvesting tha money into archery. I like the martin ok but well It just doesn't have the romance and quality I am looking for. Also my daughter has been expressing an interest and her little fiberglass number just isn't cutting it so ben thinking it would be a fun hobby we could do together. Anyway I have decided on an omega long bow at 50lbs cut past center, they come with ff endless loop strings, my draw length is 27 inches. I figure we can build some arrow and quivers and such together and really have a blast. Anyway thanks for the help. Btw thinking of going with pup recurve for her. I figure I can sell my bike and have plenty too come up with a budget of abou 600 which would cover about everything we need.

I shoot DF shafts in a home made rd cut 1/8 past center. It's 57@28". It shoots 65-70 spined shafts with 190 up front like laser beams. I cut them to 29.5" BOP and mine weigh 680-690 finished.
