Went out for a few days at the beginning of October to try my luck with Oklahoma Black Bear.  Backpacked in and took it one day at a time.  I saw bears 5 times but never got a shot....mostly cuz I didn't really know what the hell I was doing (I'm learning) and wasn't ready the couple times I MIGHT have had a chance.  I was playing with a little predator call that I picked up and I'll be damned if a bear didn't show up 3 different times not long after calling.  Just wondered if anyone out there has any bear stories using a predator call?  Or anything else interesting using stalking to hunt bear.  I'd really like to give it another shot when the season rolls around. It's pretty awesome seeing them in the woods.

Thanks,

Do a PowWow search for "Calling Bears" and you will be entertained for the rest of the night.  Some good stuff.

Bears come in to distress calls,  so do cougars. There is a potential problem with the bears, that is a sow may ditch her little ones briefly to come in to the call.  That means you don't know and may shoot an illegal sow w/ cubs.

Either way, they are both bigger or badder than we are and they are coming in for lunch.  Remember that part.

Read Charlie Lamb's book and stories on bear calling... and after your cheeks unclench, you might want to also use his suggestions to avoid some potential "set up" mistakes to increase safety...

But being stalked by an apex predator, would surely add to the adrenalin rush of bow hunting!

I've unintentionally called bears in many times over the years during spring turkey season. If you've got birds in the area a turkey call can work great for bears. Sometimes they come in quiet and sneaky but sometimes they'll come in on the dead run too! Be careful!
