Is or has anyone used the Howard Hill broadheads with any success???  I was thinking of trying a half dozen for the experience.  How do you (those that use them) sharpen them ?  Thanks, Horserod

Bud B.

Hello Horserod.

I have hunted with the HH head but have yet to loose one on a game animal. They fly great as long as you get them trued in the arrow or insert adapter.

As for sharpening, I have found that using this help me the best (I've tried the chainsaw file method, but the ferrule is so large the angle is hard to achieve):

Copy this link and put a www. in front of it and you'll see it.

Instead of pulling the BH edge through the carbide cutters I push it through. Once getting the cutters to bite the very edge of the BH blade I then use a leather strop to get a shaving edge on it.

If you search the Pow Wow for Howard Hill Broadheads or some variant thereof you'll get some posts that'll show you several success stories.

I also see by your post count that you're new to the site. A hearty welcome is sent your way!!

IMHO I havnt found any head that flies better than a Hill head. Sharpening them is a bit of a challenge(if your not rubbing the ferrule then you dont have the angle), but when placed in the honey hole they will get it done.

Do a search for Hill Heads and you will find endless threads on them.

And check the how to section for a sharpening tutorial on them.

I have a half dozen that have been sharpened so many times that the ferrule is about gone. They don't wind plane and I can attest to the blood trail they will leave. Good luck and by the way I use the file method of sharpening these heads.

Grouse
