OK, so it's only  fallow deer TARGET.  Still . . .the picture should amuse a few of you.

Five trad archers . .. several different angles and distances . . . and almost a 50/50 split of in the deer vs in the dirt.

Not a bad way to spend a Sunday morning.

Looks like opening day on some public land I hunted one time!  That is a really cool picure!

Looks like it was way downhill or way out there?

3D is starting up and hunting season is winding down. There is always a reason to be out shooting your bow!

Looks like a fun time.

Kingsnake

Both, Bisch.....Way downhill AND way out there.  Shots were more for fun, since we knew we had a decent backstop and were unlikely to lose an arrow.

Yes . ..It was a fun time!

Hey I remember that deer. For a second I thought there was gonna be talk about hunting fallow deer. They've got em in Maryland in a few areas I think.

Kingsnake

Good time to be had.

And it pays to be prepared.

This fellow (fallow) walked across my property in Upstate NY and I stopped scratching my head long enough to drop him.  The DEC Officer informed me a local farmer had imported a herd illegally several years before and had a "fence malfunction" before they could be confiscated.  Two reported, ten still unaccounted for.

Hey Charlie,

That is pretty cool, what kind of deer is that ? and did you have it mounted ?, also he should have known better than to cross your path without asking.   :archer2:

QuoteHey Charlie,

That's a fallow deer (in keeping with the thread).  I made a skull cap plaque for the rack but I don't mount deer heads.  Too much money for "artwork".  Maybe when that 12 pointer jumps into my arrow . . .

This was culling an introduced species and not sport hunting.  All the meat tasted of liver.  I don't mind liver - as long as it doesn't exceed two meals a year.  The DEC quaranteened the carcass and had it tested for CWD, rabies, tuberculosis and other nasties but turned it back over once it checked clear.  They took the head but did return the rack.
