Three years ago I decided to try carbon arrows.  After alot of reading on how good the AD Hammerheads were I decided to go with a dozen Hammerhead heavy.  I was shooting a 74# recurve and longbow.  I tryed to bareshaft but was running into all types of problems.  The reply that I got from most, was put feathers on and just shoot them.  That I was not going to hunt with bare shafts.  The flight with feathers was good enough to hunt with.I was using 100 gr brass insert and a 160 gr snuffer and 42 gr adapter.  Fast forward to now.  I can not get the AD to shoot out of a new 74# longbow.  They are jumping left before they hit the target.  I added 100gr and the flight was better but not perfect.  Not even good enough to hunt with.  Back to my old 74# longbow and flight was better.  I decided to start all over and use the Stu Miller chart and see where I stand.  I could not find AD shafts so Emailed Stu about my set up.  His first response was that the AD were to weak.  How can that be?  One of the spec sheets for the AD heavy showed a spine of 95#.  Stu also stated that there was no reason why you can not bareshaft an AD Hammerhead.  I found a bareshaft and started shooting.  After several hours and several days i have determined that yes the Heavys are weak.  I took off 100 grains and added 1/8 inch to my sideplate.  Now the bareshafts flies straight with the fletched arrow at 20 yards and now the arrow flys straighter then i have ever had them fly.  So for me, YES you can get an AD hammerhead to bareshaft and it did inprove the flight of my arrows.  As for the new bow at 74#, it still shows the AD as to stiff, even with 400gr on the end.  That is another story.  Thanks Stu Miller

Glad it is working out for you. The arrow dynamics hammerhead heavies are an extremely stiff shaft. Even with that much weight up front if your bow is not cut to or past center it is very likely they are overspined for your new bow.

What I am calling a NEW bow, is just a set of 64inch limbs that are on the same riser as my old 60 inch longbow.  The new 64 inch limb were bought to be backup limbs for trips.  But the two sets of limbs shoot totally different.  One 74# 60 inch shoot the AD as To heavy, and one set 74# 64 inch shoots AD as to weak.

When I bought my ADs Ted at Raptor archery said that they would bareshaft no problem.....and they did. At the end of the day, the arrow will not lie to you. These are some great shafts.
God Bless
