Rabbits?

I'm going over to the High Desert here in OR for some medical stuff for a couple days and was thinking about chasing some rabbits.  I've never bowhunted them before but figured it make for some fun practice and extra meat.  What do you guys use for arrow set ups?  I have both flu flu and regular fletched arrows set up with weighted inserts and G5 small game heads as well as both types of arrows set up with my Bear Razorheads.  I don't have a back quiver yet so I'll have to settle for the four arrows that will fit in my bow quiver.

I tink your gt arrows with game getter heads should be fine I use hex blunts alot and love em. You might check into footing your carbon arrows though

We hint with a combination of broadheads, judos, & blunts. Your set up should be fine. I personally shoot more fluflus because they help slow the arrows @ longer distances and are easier to find in the brush.

Just finished a hunt this morn.  Hunt them like deer.  Spot and stalk.  Find sign and work it slowly. Look for ears, eyes and tails.  Under the shadysides of sage when hot and sunny when cold.  I took a friend from work and he tried to hunt them as if he was shotgunning.  He saw a lot and never got a decent shot.  Also, as you stalk, look behind you.  I use pink fletching, and seldom us flu flus.  Shoot so if you miss, the arrow over will often make them run towards you.  Works for me

I take my target points and use a 9mm casing on them.  I cut off the primer end so there is a point but a really good blunt.  I shot three arrows and killed two, one an instant kill, the other made it 12 yards.  Good luck

I'd lie if I did not admit I love/live for cottontail season.  I have 2 in the dutchie right now.  Biscuits will be ready in just a few.

Where you heading to Rod?  Bend area? or further south?  

I'd like to take that trip to Medford for deer and maybe go after some Jack Rabbits during late season...

kinda depends on weather if they are holed up or not.  jacks aren't any good to eat but the farmers love you thinning the herds. we've had some fun with shot guns years ago down there, but I've never gone after em with a bow.  

i just ordered a few of those VPA small game heads. Those look awesome!

Roadkill took the words right out of my mouth, as a card carrying super fan of cottontail hunting, I think he hit it right on the head.  the only thing I would add is "stop" a lot!  often times cottontails will hold if they know your gonna walk right by them.  stopping often puts just enough nerves into them that they will make a move for the next sagebrush.  also they will often stop just behind a sagebrush, dont walk straight at them, walk 90 degrees to them and that will usually open up enough of a lane to shoot.

and with all rocks in the high desert i use the rubber blunts, it saves my arrows
