Muck boots.   I even use them for all my elk hunting in some steep terrain.

Schnees with the tire tread sole. Super soft and very quiet. They are also very light and provide exceptional ankle support.

For years it has been Danner boots and wool socks. Depending on the weather I have different weight wool socks to keep my feet comfortable. Gortex lining helps a lot with comfort in wet conditions and the wool socks are a must if the feet get wet through a leak or crossing a stream that's too deep while chasing Benny the Bull and his band of hussies. A stitch down sole gives you a wider and more stable platform which helps from having your legs get tired as quickly. I prefer 10" boots but that is just me as I am sure a 6" would be ok too for most hunting.

Danner Jackals early, Rocky Cornstalkers when it gets cold, both with a sock liner and different weight wool socks over those.

Muck boots for me.

Unless I will be doing a lot of hiking, then I will use a leather boot.  Hikers in the warmer weather and an insulated boot in the cool weather.
