I picked up a 35# Shakespeare Root Rover for my son who wants to start shooting traditional equipment.  It almost seems like I heard Root was actually the manufacturer but I'm not sure.  My son is 16 and has close to a 30" draw so I'm figuring he'll be drawing about 40# which is minimum in OR for deer and black bear.  The bow is in excellent condition and I paid 60.00 for it.  Did I get a fair deal and what kind of reputation and what type of quality do these bows have?  I wanted to start light so he would be less likes to develop bad habits from being "over bowed".  I figure if he takes to it then I'll step up to a heavier and higher quality bow for him.  In fact I may just hand him down my Wallace if he gets real serious and I'll just go back to hunting with my Brack.  Thanks for any info you can give me.

I don't know much about those bows but if the limbs are straight and there are no problems with the bow, then I just don't see how you can go wrong for $60.00.

limbs are straight, I had a brand new endless loop string in my box that was the right length.  I'm getting some new aluminum shafts for it but I took it out with some wood arrows I have for my daughters bow and it shot alot faster than I expected and it shot straight for me.

Ernie Root was a bowyer,he sold out to Shakespeare and built bows for them,Great bows and were really popular in the late 50s thru 60s.Think he sold out in the late60s or early 70s.He also built boes under the name of Fasco in the 70s.
