I am trying to get a string from SBD. I am confused by how he is asking to measure the current string. This is what he said...

 "Make sure that bow is set up at the correct brace height.  Unstring the bow without taking any twists out of the string.  Hang it from a nail and measure from outside of top loop to out side of bottom loop.  That is the actual string length  measurement we will need."

I don`t get how this is accurate just hanging under no tension. Also..what if I don`t have a string on it? what do I do in that case?

Hang it from a nail and pull it tight. I usually slip a little screwdriver in the lower loop so I can pull it down tight. Then as Pierre says measure outside to outside. If you do it right Pierre will hit the length right on the money.

I recently emailed to clarify this same thing. He stated to me to measure string under slight tension. In other words, hang it from a nail, pull it taught by hand and measure from end to end. Hope this helps.

He said nothing about pulling it tight ,so you can see why I am confused. But now...what if there is no string to measure? Why cant he make me a string by just knowing the bow is 62"?

62" - 3" or 4" depending on whether you're shooting a LB or Recurve will get you close enough to adjust to correct brace height by twisting.  I think you're overcomplicating this a little.

Brother, these strings that makers like Pierre make are one of the top dogs of strings.  There is a lot of science to making one that is just a little quieter and faster than another of the same material and strand count.  Twisting one to tight is one thing that will both affect one negetaviley, and the stretch is going to minimal.  So while it is aggrevating, he is only asking you to take the extra steps to ensure you get the best from his product.

If you do not have a shot in string to measure correctly tell him and he will adjust accordingly.  If you are not satisfied look at other sites that make these skinny strings.  They have the same recommendations to ensure you get the best.  Not all measure the same way but the best have ways they want it done.  It is that particular of a science. Not all "62" inch bows require the same length string. Variation may not be much, but the reason he is asking you to do that is so he gives you a string that fits as ideally as possible. Some bowyers vary from bow to bow. Go from one bowyer to another and the variation is even greater.

get the bow set to the brace you want,  take it off pull it tight an dmeasure from the end of each loop.  thats how I do it

Have sbd strings on all my bows,  Pierre does a great job. You wont be disappointed .

Yeah I probably am overcomplicating it,but I have never ordered a string before,so I am new to all this stuff.
