I really  curious to see if you are rt handed and shooting rt wing. I had always shot lt wing but a guy I bought arrows from once would only fletch rt wing. Those arrows did exactly what you described. After seeing a post here suggesting the lt wing rt wing issue I refletched them myself left wing and problem solved.

I figured out my problem at the 3D shoot today. I shot with one arrow the whole shoot, I was really nervous when I thought I lost it !

I am right handed shooting left wing, but what I figured out is my nock placement in relationship to the cock feather is very finicky. It is totally my fault as I have a lot of spiral on my feathers & the cock feather at the start was what was hitting my hand. The feather at the end (it's widest point) was laying horizontal, straight away from the shelf. I had one arrow in my bunch where the cock feather was more upward at the start &  the fletch never hit my hand.

I was very happy with my Ambush & my shooting !

Do I need to use a left spiral clamp on my bitzenburger or is the straight clamp with a left wing enough spiral ? Even using the straight clamp with a left wing there is some natural spiral in the fletch. If I did this I wouldn't have no problems at all. If I should use a left spiral clamp, I will have to play around with  the bitzenburger to get that cock feather up & out of the way at the start of the feather.

Thanks for all the advice, I learned a lot from my screwup !

Glad it worked out! I fletch left helical with no issues on the Bitz

Dan, if you shoot right handed, and are shooting left wing fletching,  try switching to right-wing fletch.  Steve at Northern Mist suggested that to me, and it worked.

Dan,I just found this thread, Try this as well.
Add a decent thickness of leather under your shelf rug. This will get the arrow off your hand a bit more.
also,if you are useing a straight clamp you will be glueing the feathers on an offset not helical.
You will need a leftwing clamp to get the helical.
also look at your nock reciever to be sure it is not a RW as this will change your cock feather orientation.
Glad you are getting it figured out

I have it pretty much figured out, I am using a left wing with a left clamp, but I don't glue the nock on the arrow until I physically have it sitting on the bow shelf & I turn the cock feather up a little bit before the glue sets on the nock.

I do remember reading about a right or left nock receiver, how do I know which one I have ? I thought I read somewhere the older bitzenburgers with a flat on the nock turning knob was universal ? Or something like that ? Can someone clarify how do I know what nock receiver I have ?

Thanks,
Dan
