I am in the need for some 145 or 150 field tips in  5/16 glue on. Anybody know were I can get some. Also has anybody ever footed bamboo with aluminum,if so what size for 5/16,and could you leave the insert in so you could screw in a tip or broad head. I looked thru the how to and did not find anything on the subject,so probly not a good question. Thanks Don

Bud B.

I HAVE NEVER FOUND ANY ABOVE 125GR.

Sorry for all caps. You can glue on 11/32 145gr but they'll be hard to pull out of your target. I use straw bales so it's not an issue. I went to 11/32 just to avoid the light 5/16 points.

And as to your second part, 2117 should fit 5/16 shafts and yes, I think you could leave the insert in but you'd be adding about 40gr +/- to the point before adding in a field point or broadhead. I think oyu'd need at least a 2.25" footing of 2117 with the insert left in.

Trial and error sounds like it's in your future.

If you need a bit of 2117 I can help on that...but not sure if I have any inserts.

Actually 5/16" in decimals is .3125  A perfect fit would be a 2212 with an inside diameter of .3197   The biggest problem, I've found, working with bamboo is that they will not be a consistent 5/16", so I've wound up with several aluminum shaft sizes, and using the one that comes closest to the bamboo shaft I'm currently working on. So far I've used, 2212,2213,2216,2219. All 11/32 O.D. with different I.D.s  I've expeirmented using the H.I.T. inserts, and that works well, if you drill the bamboo correctly. (put the footings on before drilling, or you run the risk of splitting the boo).I use jigs I've made-up.
I intend to try the extra long footings with regular Easton inserts, but have not yet.

Hmmmmm. I know you think you understand what you thought I said, but I'm
not sure that what you heard is what I actually meant!
