I bought a bear grizzly for 5.00$ at a yard sale last week .amo is 58in 45# kr41798 need help with string length.bow is straight no twists or cracks.would like to get it tuned the string has some frayes so im not up to using this string.my draw is a true 28in also what size alum shaft would u suggest .also what brace height is recommended.

Great find! Got any pics? For recurves you usually need a string about 4" shorter than amo length.

Why can't I find something like that at a yardsale?
Now we're digging where the taters are.

String length 54 1/4" and I would start out with a brace at 8".

I did at a PA flee market  a SEARS bow that wing archery made, basicly a wing red wing hunter 45 lb 58 in $35 (had som mud on the lower tip so I got it for $30) cleaned it added a  new string really flung an arrow gave it to a buddy who wanted to try archery(with 12 arrows)
As we get older our bow weight goes down and our body weight goes up, One of Lifes little jokes.

I shot 2016s out of my Grizzly #45 at my draw of 28 inches.  145 grain head with the arrows cut to 30 inches.
Silence over speed.  Heavier arrows never hurt.

I would think a 1916-2016 would fit the bill just depending on your point weight.

Yup, 1916 or 2016 depending on point weight. I thought I did well with a mint Tigercat for $12.00, but you stole that one. Congrats.
We are all here because we are not all there.

Visit your local archery shop and ask for a dacron string AMO 58".
