Banteng/Buff Hunts Australia

Guys just throwing this out there. I am looking at starting Banteng/Buff Hunts on a new concession next year. If this all goes ahead I will be the only Bowhunting Only Concession in the NT. The property has never had a commercial Hunting operation on it so it will be ideal for Bowhunting. Not only that I think I will be able to offer the hunts at quite a reduced cost compared to the Rifle operations where banteng Hunts go for $15-$18,000.

If guys are interested please PM me to show interest. Hunts would be in July/August.

This is only preliminary at present but would expect to have all details by Christmas so 6 months for hunters to organise flights etc.

Scrub bulls, Danny.  They can be a little more prickly towards people than the buff,  but if you saw Andy Ivy's thread, they both have their moments.


Mick, give me a couple of years to gather more funds and we'll talk.  I hope a bunch more people are interested to make this happen.

Banteng are Banteng (bos javanicus), not scrub bulls.  They are a type of wild ox, similar to a guar or saladang.  Scrub bulls are feral cattle, banteng are a different species.  I don't know if scrub bulls are colloquially called banteng or not in Australia, but real banteng are not feral cattle.

NY Museum of Natural History has some incredible specimens of Banteng, Guar and Saladeng. They are some of the dreamiest looking critters ever, out of my league now but in my dreams.

Ryan is right, I did a very quick internet search before and the first thing that came up said they were scrub bulls, but they are a distinct breed.  Shouldn't have offered information that I wasn't sure of.  Sorry.

Banteng is definitely not known as scrub bulls in Australia. A Banteng is a Banteng a Scrub Bull is any breed of domesticated cattle that has not been influenced or handled by man they are usually smart & stubborn & resist property owners attempts to round them up at different times of the year. They become too much trouble when trying to round up hundreds or thousands of head of cattle so they get left behind & are usually caught by specialist Scrub bull catchers with specially modified 4x4 vehicles & dogs.Banteng are only found on the Coburg  Peninsula in the Northern Territory they are the only known wild Population left. They would generally be considered more unpredictable & dangerous than Scrub Bulls or Buffalo. They would make an awesome & rare trophy for those that can afford to hunt them.

Over hear Scrub bulls are scrub bulls and bantang are bantang as far as I'm aware Austrailia has the only huntible herds of bantang in the world
