Howdy all,

I am getting ready to order a longbow but i want to know what would be the best way to determine my draw length.

I dont have another bow or an arrow to check against.

Would using a tape measure held to my anchor point be the correct draw length?

Thanks for the held in advance.

You must remember that when you draw, the pressure against your muscles and bones will compress a little as opposed to using a tape measure, and the older one is the more compression one gets.

Go to a sporting goods store that sells archery equipment and let them measure it for you.

  • Leon Stewart 3pc. 64" R/D 51# @ 27"
  • Gordy Morey 2pc. 68" R/D 55# @ 28"
  • Hoyt Pro Medalist, 70" 42# @ 28" (1963)
  • Bear Tamerlane 66" 30# @ 28" (1966)- for my better half
  • Bear Kodiak 60" 47# @ 28"(1965)

Take a yard stick and put it against the middle of your chest.  Hold arms straight out on sides of yardstick in front of you.  Take the measurement to your fingertips.  That will get you in the ballpark.  Your drawlength should increase as you stretch after shooting awhile.  The best way is definitely to get measured actually drawing a bow.

Like John49 said that is pretty accurate. There will be some difference depending,on anchor spot.
I know for me nd my wife this method is,right on. When making bows for customers I have them verify that way.
