I've been invited to help with a summer camp of young kids who have been reading books about old England and archery. A few guys from our trad. archery club will be providing bows and arrows and instruction on how to shoot them. Should be loads of fun!    :archer2:    Hope to provide some pictures later today.

That does sound like a blast! Have a great time and I'll be back for those pics.

I worked for our Fish and Wildlife Conservation Camp here in Vermont when I was going through college, nothing more fun than getting kids interested in anything outdoors especially archery!
That's why they call it hunting....

I left in such a hurry I forgot the camera! I'm sorry.....   :banghead:

It was sooooo much fun. There was probably 2:1 girls over boys in attendance. We had 3 groups that would rotate in and out to the range we had set up. When they came to us it was that tentative look in their eyes. Just not sure of what was going to happen. We talked with them about how the bows were made and safety when shooting and pulling arrows. Then came the first shot. Some actually made it to the target! haha

I will never forget this one little girl. She was really quiet at first. Then with a little supportive coaching she hit the target. She looked at me with wide eyes and mouth open in amazement. She was quick to nock another arrow. This time she put it under the nocking pt. and didn't need my assistance. She hit the target many more times. Then it happened! One of her arrows found one of the balloons we had stuck to the bales. She just about did the happy dance! haha I had brought one of Mudd's Robinhood hats. I told the kids whoever hit a balloon first could wear it. You'd think that having the hat on her head was the coolest thing ever!
She turned to me with that same wide-eyed excitement and said, "This is the best time I've had at a summer camp ever! I'm going to tell my Mom all about this and see if I can get a bow".  When she pulled her arrows she picked up the deflated balloon and put it in her pocket. She called it her trophy. As one good soul named Mudd would say..."WAY!"

This was just one spark that was ignited yesterday. I just hope that the flame is fed and encouragement is provided.

It was one of the most enjoyable days I've had with a bow in my hand.

What a terrific story! You made me remember learning to shoot, and the joy in my first triumphs. I wish I had had a mentor like you when I started out.
