Anyone here a member at Oranco Bowmen in Norco, CA? I'm getting into trad and lookin for another trad guy to shoot there with and get some tips. Not new to shooting but new to trad. I have plenty of friends who shoot compound and Olympic but none who shoot traditional. Anyone need a shooting buddy? My name is Tom btw and I work part time at Hi Tech Archery in Fullerton, CA. If you are an Oranco member you probably know about the shop.

Grey Taylor

Tom, I live right around the corner at Beach and Lincoln in Anaheim.
I'm not an Oranco member, I've never seen them as being a very trad friendly club. For an informal group you may want to check out the guys who gather at the little range in Santiago Park near CHOC. One of the guys is Larry M who posts frequently here in the Collector's forum.
There is a very strong trad group at the Pasadena Roving Archers up near the Rose Bowl. There is even a once a month gathering there of wood bow makers. That's where I was today.

Ya you're right there. Are the guys welcoming over at Santiago? Really lookin for some Trad shooting buddies

Grey Taylor

The guys at Santiago and Pasadena are all very welcoming to others.
Back when I first began archery I gave a call to Oranco with questions about a shoot they had coming up. I got such a bad attitude from them that I just never went to any of their stuff. From what I hear from others today the attitude hasn't changed.
The Santiago Park range is pretty small and the folks there all know one another but they're very friendly and open. Pasadena is a lot larger but just as friendly.
Heck, let me know when you're going out there and I'll see if I can come out, too.

I enjoy the Oranco shoots, but i go with the guys from the shop and I don't talk to anyone who runs it. I'll definitely hit you up though before I go, if you ever come into hi Tech I work there on Fridays and Saturdays. Names Tom. Thanks for your help

Sorry to hear that your first contact with Oranco was so negative that you never gave it a try.  Mine was just the opposite and have been a member for five months and have really enjoyed it,found the members to be friendly and got lots of help on my shooting. Started shooting when I joined so kinda new to archery. That santiago range does sound like a cool place and would like some more information on it if I can't find anything on the net about it.  Max

Tom
I shoot at Oranco and would be willing to shoot with you. At Oranco or Santiago maybe. PM me  Max

You need to clear your mailbox. I've tried to pm you for the past few days.
That's a talented fun group out at Pasadena with a great Trad shoot in October.

I have shot the CBH broad tournament and a few other 3D tournaments at Oranco and found them to be great guys and they work hard to keep that range one of the best in the state.

Good luck making the switch to trad.  I try and get down to Oranco at least once a year for a shoot as I always enjoy it so much, and it is a 2 hour + trip each way for me...
Give me a bow a topo and two weeks, and I guarantee I kill two weeks!

Shot

I shoot at both Oranco and Pasadena. Pasadena has the bigger trad group, however, I like the range at Oranco more. Its more challenging.

Verdugo hills archery also has a good group of trad guys, about 20 min from Pasadena.

Attend one of the shoots and join up with a trad group, great learning experience.

Thare1774

Added you to my buddy list Grey, ill definitely contact you before I go.

Just to be clear - Oranco is in Chino. I live 7 miles away from it. I used to be a member and it is a great range but I rather drive to Pasadena since there are more recurve and longbow shooters there.

Thare1774

Good correction, don't know why I thought Norco. Shoot there enough, I should know

Jhoneil1

BTW - Grey is a great person! I used to shoot with him on my lunch breaks  :D

My daughter goes to College down in Riverside, I see a range on the left side as I drive down,  I think the exit is Butterfield Ranch? which club is that?

maxbks

Kurt

That would be Oranco. There should be a new 16'x8' sign stating the fact up on the hill next to freeway in 2 to 4 weeks. Should be nice.

Thanks Max
Is that open daily or open to the public?

She is heading back down there shortly, I could make some time to shoot if it works out

Kurt

Open for members 7 days a week. Open to public on Sundays from 8:30 to I think 2:30 for 10$
