Hey Gang

I was doing a little shopping online for musk ox silencers today.... And was shocked that it'll cost almost as much as the silencers to ship them... So I'm thinking of using string leeches or spider silencers. I noticed Cabelas has the TRU Ball Spyders locally. Just wanted to get some feedback if anyone has used those or any other suggestions beside beaver balls. I have those on the bow now and they are too loud.

Thanks!
God Bless,
Erik

If your bow is too loud with "beaver ball" silencers you may well find that other silencers don't make a big difference. It's possible that the noise is from incorrect brace height, arrow spine, string type, too light an arrow, shooting 3 fingers under on a bow tillered for split without raising the nock etc..

Check with Chuck Deshler, TwoTracks. He has a felted wool silencer that works extremely well, is reasonably priced, and is easy to install.

I have always had good luck with the beaver ball silencers, they always seem to be readily available locally here.

I am a wool fan! Hush Puppies cost $6 and are naturally waterproof. There is a link here somewhere with a bunch of dead critters on it from folks using those on their bows   :goldtooth:

I make my own now out of acrylic/wool yarn.  If you look at the "How To" section, Apex Predator has a post there on how to make these puffball silencers. They look great and work even better.
You must use the Wool-Ease yarn though, regular yarn just won't cut it. 100 yds of this stuff will last you for years. I even made a jig out of a coat hanger to build them on. PM me if you want a couple of sets to try and I'll send you some.

I don't do Photobucket, but can send some pics to your email.

Aside from that, I lean towards the wool yarn type silences.  I've had good luck with them.

I am with Reaper on the wool-ease yarn.I get it at wal-mart and several colors to choose from.Works great and $3.00 will get a life time supply.

Hush Puppies right here on the forum are the best I have used and I have had them on my strings for the life of the string. Pretty hard to beat sucess    :goldtooth:

How do you have the beaver strips attached? That's all I use, and they are as quiet as anything else I've tried.

Pheonixarcher

I too, am very impressed with the hush puppies. Also, what type of string do you have, and where are the beaver balls installed? Try moving them up or down the string, and see if that helps.
Plant a fruit or nut tree today, and have good hunting tomorrow.

I've tried everything over the years from rubber, to fleece,to reg. yarn....nothing works better than Bow Hush and Hush Puppies!  Naturally water resistant and they last longer than any silencer I've ever used.

Bowhush, as good as my gimicky muskox for much less.

Hush Puppies have out performed everything I've tried other than the rubber products. They look better that the tie on rubber though.
