Just completed making a ghillie suit.  It came as a kit with mesh string as a cover.  I love it, but I tried it out and the bow string is getting caught.  Not sure if trimming will help.I think I would need cloth where the chest meets the shoulder as well as on the arm which I think defeats the purpose of the ghillie.

I need help/suggestions on what has worked with other people do it, or does anyone want to buy a ghillie?

Big fan of the ghillie suit.  Bought one several years ago, premade, not a kit, had the same problem.  Simple solution, bought a long armguard, basically, it  starts at my armpit and goes all the way down, has buckle straps, and that keeps the material away from my bow.

I feel like I should just cut the sleeve off if I am going to cover it up with an arm guard.

draw your bow while someone else cuts the strings that would get inthe saves time than the shoot and trim

I didn't make mine, but trimming the inside of the arm and the chest area on my left side took care of any interference issues.  I think the most important part of a ghillie is how it breaks up the solid lines on the outside of your silouette.  So trimming anything on the inside really doesn't seem to cause any problems.  Give it a try - I think you'll find you can trim enough to make it work just fine and still have a good breakup of your outline.

Thanks, for the advice guys, I'll get the scissors!

The reason I wanted to build my own was to better match our area we hunt.  I felt I could do a better job than just the standard offerings.  I sure do like the suit though.  Needs some tweaking I guess.

three rubber bands, one around the bicep, one just below the elbow, one just up from the wrist.
works for me.a cheap, silent fix!!
good luck!!

Thanks, I'll end up taking the scissors to it .... I think.

BTW, I ended up making one side a little "darker" that the other.  Now all I have to do is turn it around to better match the surroundings.  The hood is going to be sewed in on a boonie instead of attached to the coat portion.

aw,

I made my own, poncho style no sleeves works great for arm clearance. Don't be afraid to take a scissor to the area the bow string contacts. I few snips and you should be clear yet camo'd. come to full draw and cut away at just the angle the bow string makes. Worked for me. Don't forget to shoot nd try out the hood also. Possibly a bit more trimming need up top.

Get one your wife's panty hose/ nylon stocking cut to arms length and your good to go. You can also cut a few small holes and pull some camo netting out.

I was actually thinking a sweatshirt sleeve doug.

AW don't wear no pantyhoses!

Pantyhose is the best as it compresses to give more clearance.
