If you have never went stump shooting you should definatly try it ! I had a blast today.  I went out with longbowguy around my backyard. I was surprised how well a cedar arrow handles a judo point, then again I was surprised how well a judo point works !

We just picked out small trees, weeds, junk anything to shoot at, 20 yards to 70 yards !

I'm going to save up some plastic milk jugs & tie them to my low hanging pine branches or fill them with a little sand so they don't blow away & we will have better targets yet for next time around.

I used to think I would destroy or lose arrows trying this, We did a lot of shooting today & didn't lose or hurt a cedar arrow.

If you haven't tried stump shooting, you really should, I enjoyed it as much as a good 3D shoot.    :archer:

One of my favorite pastimes.....can't beat a good day stumping and great practice for hunting!! Check out the Rockwood 2012 stump shoot on the events forum, great photos of an even better time!
In the beginner's mind there are many possibilities. In the expert's there are few...So the most difficult thing is always to keep your beginner's mind...This is also the real secret of the arts: always be a beginner.  Shunryu Suzuki

Oh yea stumping is a great time.  You will lose and destroy arrows before it's over with.  That's all part of the fun and it helps stimulate the economy.  Keeps arrow builders in business.

Great fun and great practice! After shooting on your
comfortable home range it really puts things in perspective. Changing things up a bit really adds quality to your practice.   :coffee:

I love stump shooting! My family owns about 20 acres that is about 5 minutes from my house so I get to go all the time.

Really enjoy stump shooting. Loads of fun and a great way to practice. Enjoy going with my son, about the only time I out shoot him. He uses a compound but I still love him.

I went yesterday also. Only ruined one arrow on a super hard stump. Mushroomed the end of a 2117  and broke a nock on another.
Not a bad day for a two mile hike and a hundred shots or so.
Also seen a herd of elk.
Beats shootin targets in the yard.

Stumping is IMHO the best way to prepare for hunting. I don't even own a bag target anymore. I shoot hammers or ace hexes in my back yard all the time.

Here's a picture of my first shot with my first wood arrow just a few days ago.

Anything will do, this "target" was just a small clump of dead grass from the mower. A weed (not that any of us would have weeds in our yards)  :)  or a leaf.

Stumping just adds to the fun of shooting trad.
