Does this setup sound like enough?

Hi,

I've been a long time thinker that heavier is better.

Mostly because I haven't been able to connect on a whitetail with a tradbow. I haven't had a chance to compare results.

so...I didn't want to take any chances on penetration.

I've been shooting a 590 grain arrow at around 145 fps out of a 45# bow. That setup was 13 gpp...no worries if I got the drop right..lol

I have a new 45# bow coming and according to tests others have done,I should be able to send a 471 grain arrow about 165-180fps out of the new bow.

With this new setup I plan on using a WW head or similar.

Bottom line...Do you feel a well tuned 471 total grain arrow, tipped with a sharp WW, going 165-180 fps will be a 2 hole penetrator on whitetail?

Thank you

Your setup should be fine.Just put it in the right spot, you should get a passthrough on deer.

You bet!

With 47# and 414 grain arrows I had two pass-throughs on white-tails at 15 and 21 yards. Both dropped in view less than 55 yards from my tree stand. I told about em both here on Pow Wow.

I was using a 2-blade, single-bevel broadhead.

TxAg

Yep. Shot 3 deer and 5 pigs this past season with a 45# bow and 465 gr arrow.

I got two holes in everything, but the arrow did hang up sometimes as the animal ran off....you'll break a few arrows that way. No biggie to me since they all died and left great blood.

You should have no problem, put it in the right spot no worries.

Yes! You should get two holes just about every time on whitetails.

When you mention WW I assume you are speaking of a 3 blade Woodsman ?

If so an you are concerned with a 3 blade I wold suggest a 2 blade

Hi Joe,

Yep, I'm thinking about either the original woodsman, a woodsman elite, or the kustom king trailmaker...( this is a whole other debate..lol)

I guess your question gets right to the heart of mine...
Fact is, I'd rather cut a three blade hole than a 2 blade. I've cut a lot of 1 1/8" 3 blade holes in my compound days and I've liked the trails.

So...IF ( that's the big word here) IF this setup would have enough umph for a 3 blade I'd like to use one.
...if not I'd go to a heavier setup to attain the power needed for a 3 blade.

I'd rather not go heavier if I didn't really have too.

Just a bit worried of setting myself up for failure here...

Thanks for asking.

Shoot a 2 blade with bleeders. Just as much blood (or more) as a three blade. I shot stingers and buzzcuts in 4 blade

Bill Carlsen

Lots of guys on here who have used the Woodsman in lighter bows who had been two blade users have attested to the fact that they penetrate as well as two blades. When Fred Bear introduced the four blade Razorhead the average bow weight was 45# or so. You shouldn't have any problems. My wife shoots a 45# recurve and shoots 3 and 4 blade heads thru deer and bear. Don't sweat it.

Thanks Bill.

I'm thinking this lighter setup will work....as long as the bow will cooperate with it..
