?kifaru paratarps?

I know some of you use these and I'd like to pick your brains.

I like the ultralight weight, but I'm a little doubtful that they will provide much protection from inclement weather (i.e. driving/constant rain, or snow).  Anyone used these in bad weather?

If you position the "door" opposite the wind it can take a real bad storm.  My most recent storm experience was just below Kings Peak in Utah last summer.
And I don't use the Kifaru pole. Trekking pole or a cut tree limb.


If you are using it as your shelter every night I would go with the extra few ounces and get a Supertarp. A LOT more room inside for very little weight.

You might look at a similar tarp from a new company called Seek Outside. They are making Kifaru-like stuff for less $. I've never used one and I guess they don't have the long-term track record of Kifaru but the shelters look good.

definitely worth upgrading to a Super Tarp if you plan to routinely sleep in it.

TIM, if you use a paratarp in western WA and stay dry in it, I'm sold.  That constant, misting rain will soak through just about anything.

You will have to retighten any of the silnylon shelters when tbey get wet, but you'll stay dry if you can avoid condensation.

I use a Super Tarp and yes I can stay dry,no problem
