I was looking for a cheap way to add some weight to my carbons.

Normally, without points, they weigh in at 295 grns or so...

I took some wire I had laying around ....

and cut it just about an inch and a half longer than the arrow shaft...

after shoving it inside until it hit bottom, I folded the end so that just a bit was sticking out, enough to insert into the not to hold it steady....

then put the nock on being careful to get the wire to sit inside the nock for quiet and steady holding

The new weight... 378 grns... this puts my arrows with points at about 550-600 grains depending on points... up from the 475 I had before.

This ended up being quiet, free, and the right weight.

Just use different gauge wire if you want more weight. This was the lightest gauge I had laying around.

If you get a little tapping inside, just add a drop of glue to the ends and that will stop it, though I didn't have any issues with that.

ahhhhhh....... Good thinkin, how do they shoot?

khardrunner

They shoot perfectly.

However, after a few shots I get a tiny buzz. It's not loud at all, just annoying to me. So I'm going to drop a tiny bit of glue in the end.

After further testing, I don't think I like it that much. I'm REALLY picky about noises and I can hear just a slight difference. They shoot perfectly fine, but it is just a smidge louder.

Oh well, back to the drawing board.

Back in the day, we used .095 weedeater line...doubled...same concept but it holds tighter and was very quiet.

Aquarium tubing does the same...not free, but cheap.  very quiet.

I like to keep my weight up front so I quit doing all that...

Just remembered... some guys were filling their shafts with salt, pepper, oregano... we teased them if they were back in a ways, they could always pull the nock, build a fire and have a meal...  :)

You can add weight to the point end by pulleing the bullets from .22 ammo. 40 grains per.

Ladams... that was my next try

I'm going to glue it to the nock so that when I pull the nocks the rope comes too.

I put some small diameter rope in once, and when it hit my bag target, the nock shot off the back of the shaft.  Didnt happen when I shot into a block style target though.

I use aquarium tubing....cut a half inch long...so it scrunches.....and the tubing doesn't rattle like other stuff I've tried.

khardrunner

Terry, you put it in in half inch pieces, a piece at a time?

I got one piece in full length of the arrow, but it took some oil to lube it and about 10-15 min of tapping and pushing!
