I notice on a lot of pics here on the powwow that hardly any Hillbows have string silencers on the.Even in the harvest pics.are these bows that silent?Or do using heavy arrows make the difference.Just curious.Going to be a Hill shooter real soon Graig has my Cheetah finished........................

My experience is that most, with the right setup (Brace height, nock, string etc) and a heavy arrow, are quiet enough to hunt with without silencers. That being said. I use wool silencers on all of my hill bows. While they are quiet without them, they are deathly quiet with them.

They really don't need one.  However I like a small bit just because I don't like the string buzz and vibration in the bow.  My wife can't hear that buzz standing just feet from me but I can, guess its more of a feel.  Just a little bit of catwhisker about two hand widths from the tips and it tames it down just fine.

My experience with my Hill's is that with dacron it has less handshock without any siliencers. But I prefer D97 with a pair of whoolie wisps, less handshock and is quieter then with dacron.

My experience too.

They dont need them, but if ya do put them on.
Get them from Terrys daughters, but ya only need to use half of one on each end....
Actualy one time on a new string, I tyed a rubber band on one end and that worked....

Always use simple string silencers & feather rests. Near unfair.

I use cat whiskers on all of my Hill and Hill style bows, because where I hunt, we see a lot of rain. If the rams hear anything, it's my fletching.

I don't need them, but I have two tiny wool puffs on my Big Five string. They are tiny and nearer the tips than the center. I also hit them with a little Scotchguard in case it's damp when I'm hunting with it. They make the difference between "hunting quiet" and "freakishly quiet" so I keep them.

You are right, most pics on TG and probably most bows you'll see at events won't have silencers on them. Most of them will be quiet enough without them.

I can't stand not to have silencers on my bow strings. All my Hills and Hill style bows have them first thing when I get them.  I've tried them nekkid (the string, not me) and can't deal with the twang, even with pretty heavy arrows.   "[dntthnk]"

Even though the bows do not need it persay ... what David Mitchell said.

Glad you clarified that David, I was wondering how shooting in my birthday suit would cause my bow to be quieter! Lol ;-)

Rossco, makes you keep it waaaaaay away from your, uh, body parts so the string isn't slapping anything.  Otherwise, one tends to really set up a howl.

That'd be quite the 'twang' indeed!

I put them on just for looks, no real need but I like the looks!

I use yarn for mine, they serve a purpose. When I want to check the wind drifts, I pluck a bit off and set it free on the breeze.
