Arrow Footing

Has anyone every used gaboon ebony for a footing material? I found a yard sale prize recently in a box containing 38 pieces measuring 1/2" X 1/2" X 12". Thinking through some of the potential issues the first one that comes to mind is that this stuff is hard and will likely require turning on a lathe to shape it.  I am thinking that a Sitka spruce shaft being light but tough would put a lot of weight up front with the ebony possibly yielding some decent FOC with the right broadhead and should be a pretty durable arrow not to mention wicked looking.

Nope, I haven't...YET, but from my understanding, I have a box headed my way with all kinds of exotics to start playing with.  Once you foot them, get pics and #'s for us.  We all would love to see.

I don't know squat about footing but that seems like a heck of a find.Each one of those pieces should do 2 arrows?I have worked a piece of Gabon ebony once and it is hard like Rosewood or Cocobolo but I doubt if you would need a lathe.

What were you yard salen at Bob Villa's house! As mentioned I would like to see the finished product. Footing is something I havnt dabbled in yet.

Sounds like a greart find. Shouldn't need a lathe, but it's a hard wood for sure. Looking forward to pics    Heck if they don't work out for you send them this way
