Broadhead question

Can I use the Simmons Tree Shark broadhead here in Iowa? Not sure if they are classified as barbed or not, if anbody knows where I can find out the answer to this question I would appreciate it. They look wicked, and if anybody has aany experience with them I would like to hear about it

In Jersey the definition of a barbed head is when the back end of the blade passes a 90 degrees from the shaft< .You can check with the fish and game department on the website for Iowa.

Check with your local game agency as to whether or not it's considered barbed. My suggestion though is to simply use the glue on head mounted onto a screw in adapter, there is no way that combination could be considered "barbed", while I can see how the screw in head would prompt your question. I personally don't consider the screw in head "barbed" either, but I'm not your local game warden.

It shouldnt be a problem. A high percentage of states have the policy and I have never heard of a problem. I would say use em and enjoy some awesome bloodtrails!

I was also wondering, I ordered some GT Trad 3555 arrows, is the Tree Shark going to be flush with the shaft? On my compound arrows (Easton FMJ's) my G5 Striker broadheads were not flush with the arrow shaft. Not sure if that made any difference as they were very accurate, just have never shot a broadhead with my traditional setup. any advice you guys have with this head would be appreciated!

im pretty sure the ferule on the tree shark is 11/32 but that shouldnt be a problem.

this is a glue on with a screwin adapter.

I agree with lpcjon2. From what I've heard as long as it doesn't pass 90 degrees they aren't barbed. I just bought some TreeSharks for some spring turkeys. I'm betting they'll be in my quiver this fall too.

I would advise the glue on with adapters. The screw in model has about an inch overhang and you would have to cut your arrows accordingly. Bloodtrails will be immense! My avatar is a Treeshark!

I also saw that the Tigersharks were a lot cheaper, especially the glue on model. I have never done this before, and unfortunately am working on an extremely tight budget so I would like to get this right the first time. What would I need if I were to purchase the glue on tigersharks? (much cheaper, not much slimmer than the Tree Shark)

Or would you guys recommend sticking with the Tiger Sharks with the glue on model? And what makes you guys think the glue on model is better than the screw on?

The glue on model is not better, you would have to add an inch or more to your arrow if you use a screw on Treeshark: https://www.simmonssharks.com/node/48 see how far up the ferrule is.

Using the glue on model with adapters eliminates this problem:

If I were you, I would use a screw on Tigershark or the 165gr. Landshark. You won't have to fool with adapters or anything. Better yet, PM me your address and I'll send you a Treeshark and a 160gr. Landshark to try out.
