This time of year I don't get out much before dark, so I try to practice by porchlight in the backyard.  The other night a can left over from the kids shooting the pellet gun caught my eye near the bag target.  I couldn't see where the arrows went in the darkness, but I could hear, "Tink, Tink, Tink, Thud, Tink."  Didn't seem like the can moved much, so I figured I was just nicking it.  Walked the 17yds to the can to find this:

Turns out that shooting at cans is a bad idea if you want to keep fletching on your arrows.  Luckily the only arrow that had fresh fletching was the one that missed a little high.

As an aside, does anyone else practice in the dark?  I can make out the target, but I can't see my arrows.  I find my groups are tighter, although usually not centered on the bullseye.

That group was "centered on the bullseye" pretty well!

I don't get much practicing in the dark.

Congrats on some fine shooting.

That's some dang good shootin!

Friend that is some fine shooting! I sometimes shoot at cans but use bludgeons which just knock the can around. My first love is stumpin but when other things interfere I shoot at cans in the backyard.

LONGSTYKES

Very fine shooting. One dead can for sure.

Great shooting I think you can put the tag on it now.LOL........

nice shooting.  Bottles are problematic as well.  The explosion is satisfying, but picking up bits of fletching is not.

Great shooting, I like to shoot in the dark-with a yard light to help me focus better, I can't see the holes in my target then. Its tough not to get poop on my shoes retrieving the arrows though, my german shorthair likes the grass in that corner of the yard.

Thanks.  My shooting isn't usually quite that good.  One of the reasons that made this post-worthy I guess.  I had to brag a little (I don't get too many chances...)

I thought that was what your neighbor's yard is for?

Very nice shooting, now go get some stuffed animals from a yard sale and tear them up and save your fletchings.
