Twin Cities area ?

What's to do in Your area in the middle of January?
Are there any Trad shops to see. Knife shops? Hunting, fishing?


My wife is working in the area and I might make a week long trip there around the middle of the month.

Bring warm clothes.  

Plenty of ice fishing.  I'd check out the Science Museum in St. Paul.  Maybe make a pilgrimage to the Cabelas that is a few miles out of town.  Or you could go to the Pope and Young museum, it's not too far.

I live out in the country (thankfully) but the Twin Cities has a lot to offer as far as good restaurants, shows, art, night life.  Great park system for hiking too.

You could also drive down to Rochester and see a nice trad shop in the Footed Shaft.

The Footed Shaft is well worth the trip as is the Pope & Young Museum.  Small game is still open, deer ends 12/31.

Lots of lakes to ice fish on...

The National Bald Eagle center is located in Wabasha - a couple hours south of the Twin Cities - Bald Eagles congregate there by the hundreds since the water stays open year round (also fishing available in the area) - the Lake Pepin area is very scenic even in winter

Pope and Young Museum is about an hour away and would be worth while if you have not seen it, it's really neat.

I would also recomend the footed shaft and P&Y museum. If you do head down to either and want to shoot send me a PM. There is a nice indoor range at coyote creek gun/archery shop in Rochester!

I've never been to the P&Y museum (have to do that one day), but I do recommend The Footed Shaft. It's a genuine, old-timey place. Not fancy, just very Trad. Terry is great to deal with as well. I sure will miss visiting with Lamont, but Terry is cut from similar cloth. Like Lamont he will take the time to visit about anything traditional. The shop is small, but plan on spending some time there because there is lots to see and covet.

Come visit with us at Rapids Archery Club on Sunday evenings starting Jan 8.  Indoor traditional league 2D targets various angles and distances.  If you fit in well folks might even take a shot at your arrows once in a while.....pm me for particulars or if you might need some equipment to borrow....
