Just fooling around shooting, can't go to woods yet ( baby just born!!! and momma needs me here).

Shot a two blade head into my new rhinhart target and it penetrated about 4 inches in...

Shot a 4 blade head into it and it goes almost 7 inches into the target.

The two blade head is the buzz cut, the 4 blade head is the Razor Trick from slick tricks.

The buzz cut is longer, so I assume that would account for about 2 inches of length difference, but ....

Does that mean the razor trick penetrates better?

The razor trick was designed for low poundage bows... A little 10 year old girl shot a buck with a 30 lbs. compound bow and killed it.. I figure we have more juice behind our arrows than that.... so ....  What do you guys think?

I think that shooting in a block, with BH and looking at penetration, would not transfer to real life hunting on live animal... But I realy don,t know... I'm sure some one with the expertise will chime in!!

hi steve hope you, the wife and new baby are doing well.  rinehart targets are some of the best - but still have soft spots and weak areas so it's hard to say about penetration. also buzz cuts are know to grab more. i think we need more testing.  :archer2:   5

Buzz cuts have a serrated edge.  This will decrease penetration some, but only when compared to an identical head without serrations.  You have way to many factors not listed to provide any real answers here.   You have to compare apples to apples in a very controlled environment to draw conclusions.

I say shoot what you like, get really close, and put the shot in the right spot.  Both heads will kill animals.

I would have to agree that it is most likely that you hit a spot where the foam had a slightly different composition.
As was said above either head will do the job.

Could be soft spots, but I get identical results on every shot... surley i'm not hitting a soft spot each time I shoot the razor trick?

Thanks guys... Just was curious....  Blessings

If nothing else your experience gives you confidence. Your Reinhart might not be exactly the same as real world targets but it is certainly a great tool for comparisons especially as you stated multiple shots to off set the soft spot theory....  I have done the same to arrive at my current set up and then translated it into real world and was very happy with the results.

By the way who makes razor trick I might have to give it a head to head with my set up in my Reinhart  :)

The fulfillment of your hunt is determined by the amount of effort you put into it  >>>---->

A smoothly-filed sharpened edge has a ~34% penetration advantage over a serrated edge.

A beard shaving sharpened edge has a ~60% penetration advantage over a serrated edge.

No serrated edges for me!!

The penetration advantage of which I am willing to give up is in order to obtain a larger wound channel.

Probably several factors influencing the penetration but one primary is that the Rhinehart targets stop an arrow by friction, the two blade cuts a smaller hole than the four blade, therefore, the shaft has less friction from the four blades larger hole.

It means nothing.....foam is nothing like fur, meat, bone and organs. Use what you have confidence in and make sure it's sharp! Just my $.02
