Spine selection help for 57# longbow
«
on:
September 27, 2011, 08:46:00 AM »
I recently purchased a used Dwyer Dauntless 57#@28" and I draw about 28.5". I shoot 125 gain broadheads and can shoot either standard or weighted inserts, and hope to shoot about 10 gpp.
I haven't shot a bow with this much draw weight so am at a loss for selecting the best arrow spine. I prefer carbons but will consider aluminum.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Toby

Toby,
I shoot a Dwyer Endeavor and Defiant, so our cut to center will be the same. The Endeavor is marked 57# @28, but it pulls a hair over 60 at my draw of 29". THE best arrow flight I've gotten is Beman ICS bowhunters, 340 spine weight, 100 gr. brass inserts, 200 gr. points, cut to about 30.5", (not exactly sure on the length, but I can check for you). This gives me an arrow of 620gr., higher FOC, and great flight.
Hope this helps.

I use CX250's out of an almost identical setup...57 pounds, 29 inch draw and 150 grain heads. I add 3GPI weight tubes to get the 550 grain weight I wanted, but that doesn't change the spine significantly.

Mike,
Thanks for the info. I didn't think of going with a higher spine and front loading that much, but sounds like a good idea.
How do you like the Endeavor?

Anything around 400 spine should be perfect with 125gr point. at that weight.

Toby, I really like the Endeavor. It's faster than the defiant, with a smoother draw, and less hand shock. A dauntless may be my next bow though!

.400 spine cut to 29.5"s and 325 up front, you will be surprised. 340 will be plenty stiff unless ya leave them real long and add lots of weight. Shawn
