Hi All,

Last week I took a box (19 3/4" by 9 1/2" by 4 3/4")to the Post Office for shipping to New Mexico.  Total weight of the contents was less than one pound.  They wanted $28 dollars to ship.  Repackage to one of their flat rate boxes, and it went for $10.  The gov'e'ment makes no sense these days.

Small flat rate box total is $5.00 online, $5.20 at the post office as of this morning.  No math, no calculations; FLAT RATE.  Insurance etc would be extra of course.

I just sent out the small flat rate box with delivery confirmation to Ga.  $5.70  Flat rate for heavy long distance items.  Closer lighter items, usually regular  priority rates.  Long bows and we take a 'hit'.

If it's any consolation, the same thing is happening in Canada! Just outrageous!

I find the flat rate boxes and envelopes the cheapest way to ship.  Get the absolute smallest box your stuff will fit in and send it that way.  Cheaper than UPS/FedEx, and gets there quick.

I think the reason this is cheaper than your own packaging is beacause the PO probably has bins to handle x number of each size box.

One of the people at our little PO always makes mistakes in the customer's favor-so I always make a point of going to her. The other attendants give her 'bitch eye' a fair bit but so far it has not changed anything.
