wow. nice buck. I agree with the other guys. If your the only one hunting around this area, then I would let him go another year. If you have much hunting pressure close then I would definatly try and take him this fall. Awesome animal either way!

Exactly Earl E.. I have more fun shed hunting and shooting does. Don't really care if i kill a buck anymore, just enjoy watching them.

It's a gamble if you have any other hunters in your area.

Around where I live he would not make it past 3.5 years old! The spotlight guys woould kill him for sure. If he is in a spot far from roads and you have exclusive rights to a couple thousand acres than maybe I would risk another year. If not I would of a shot him last year! All it takes is a hot doe or lack of a hot doe and he can be a couple miles away during the rut! Shawn

Shawn, I've been trying to get some nice deer to grow up for about 15 years now. We have the same problems you have with poachers. You just have to put a little fear into people and they will stay away. People know I have pic's of every buck around the area and that there will be no warnings. Sure your neighbors will get a few but when a buck gets to 4.5 years old his chances of living go way up, they turn into a whole different animal. It's wide open country here and our neighbors have about 10 people that come out and run and gun every thing in site, I have yet to see them kill a mature deer. Don't no where they hide but they have it figured out how to stay alive.

My thinking is if I kill a nice deer that has a chance to be a great deer he's dead. If I let him walk at least he still has a chance. I'm just as happy filling some doe tags. I never fill all my tags till Jan. just cause I enjoy being out and seeing the things you miss when your siting in the house watching football.

There is a certain kind of satisfaction that comes from passing a shot at a buck.

Thats no kiddin! Saw 2 good ones nite before last in an open bottom, they dived off in a little ditch and WOULD NOT come out. I waited on em awhile, but the ground was off limits, so I went on.
Stay sharp, Kenny.
