Putting the bubble gum on the back side of our Wyoming applications has worked again. I'm sure as they drew the names out of a hat our applications stuck to their fingers and we got drawn. We'll be looking for those deaf and dumb mule deer that are rumored to be roaming the mountains of Wyoming. I'm sure they'll have big antlers! My plan is to take lots of photos and post a pictorial of the hunt on this site when we return. Hopefully we can do more than harass the mule deer and bring some backstraps back home with us. We've both been pounding the hills trying to get our bodies "chiseled" for the event; these days chiseled means getting rid of the spare tires we've been carrying around lately. Nothing quite like a mountain mule deer hunt for shear enjoyment and sensual fulfillment.

Have you heard anything about how the deer wintered up there Dale?  I saw one report that put average snow depths in the Bighorns at 500+% of average.  Hope those bucks made it to the low ground.  On the other hand, things should be very green up there this year.

The season gave him perfect mornings, hunter's moons and fields of freedom found only by walking them with a predator's stride.

Chiseled?     Is there someone else going along that I don't know about? Chiseled...that's a good one!

Alright Gary, elk hunting AND mule deer hunting this year. Sweet! Good luck with that whole chiseling thing   :p

Whip, I also belong to a forum for Eastman's Bowhunting and have been conversing with some of the locals. Yes, lots of snow; but in the area we hunt the animals winter low and usually don't have an issue getting there. We're hoping for the best.
Knobby, I'll be real happy if I can get rid of that spare tire around my mid-section before we leave. As far as "chiseled" goes, that's real easy. Just stand in front of a full length picture of Tom Cruise and pretend its a mirror.

knobby

You're right Brian, both mulies and elk the same Fall IS being a bit hogish...but I can live with that. I've never attempted that before, and my whitetail time is going to suffer for it...but I'm OK with that, too. September is going to be a very fun month this year.
Ol' Schlaggerman, don't you know that spare tire is to make rolling downhill that much easier. And in case a guy gets lost for a few days, the tire will help get through it, whereas a skinny guy could starve. That tire isn't there by accident, it's there to serve a purpose...survival of the unfittest!

schlaggerman

Yes, Knobby has always been a little hogish; especially with the chocolate chip cookies!

Congrats on the draw, all be it a bit on the shady side. Good luck on the chiseled part, in fact stop by my camp at Horicon and I can give you some good pointers on that over a big batch of Karen's chocolate chip cookies.

Good luck guys. I am taking my brother to Wy. in October for his first trip west. We will be after mule deer & doe antelope with those evil rifles. I will be toting along my lb just in case there is a dumb one that let's me get close enough. Have fun & look forward to the pictures.

Haven't been to the Big Horns lately but the deer keep wanting to play highway tag around Casper.
