hey gang i live in the san francisco bay area and i was wondering if anybody knows of any hunting near by, (i know we have plenty of game i see blacktail deer walking home some times and earlier today a turkey walked through my backyard  :)  )

Bjorn

If you can get access from a landowner you may be in business. I have deer, turkeys and the occasional bobcat in my yard too; sometimes I have to chase deer away from the target bale.
Access is the stumbling block. Good luck!

Hey thanks man, so its is mostly private land around here? no public?

gobblegrunter

They MUST have some sort of season out there for huntin' hippies...right?    :dunno:     ;)

bayhunter-there is public land but you will have to do some homework to find areas to hunt. About two hours south there is huntable public land off hwy 156 east of hwy 101. 2 hrs north there is Lake Sonoma, which is west of Healdsburg. Do some research including BLM land, and you may find a spot or two.

Go due East .. Its loaded with public land over here. In fact 5 min from me is shotgun or bow only. Few use Shotgun for deer in Ca so the general season is wide open also as far lack of hunters.

There are more CA and Bay Area folks here than I thought.  Sounds like we need to get together for a shoot sometime.

Sounds about like finding land to hunt pigs down here in S Florida.
You can always pay $500 or so for a weekend.....

If you're willing to drive a couple of hours you can find lots of public land in Lake County... The north side of Clearlake is very close to Mendocino national forest, Cow Mountain is to the west and Hwy 20 on the way to Hwy 5, take the Indian valley turn off and you will find tons of public land... Cow holds hogs and deer. Indian Valley area has good Blacktail along with Mendocino National forest. If you drive a bit North of Hwy 20 on Hwy 101 and take the Covelo exit you can camp at the entrance to the Yolla Bolly Wilderness area and pack in (foot and Horse back only)

Lot's of public land in California if you look...

That would be in Pacifica, it used to be mainly trad guys .. shot that a few times years ago. A good place to be in the Summer to beat the heat from the Sierra Foothills

Bayhunter,

If you're willing to come inland a little there are areas north and south of you.
Pick a spot and concentrate!
