I shoot a Black widow that is 55# at 28" and I shoot a Beman classic mfx 400 that is 29.5 with a 145G point. This combination is actually perfect but I can not seem to get the spine right for a wood arrow.

Any one have any Ideas on what I should try in wood arrows.

I have tried 55#, 60#, 65#.   11/32 and none seem really to be correct.

What are they doing? I had a 68# JD Berry longbow and I shot 85-89# spine douglas fir out of it.Thats what shot the best out of it.Some of my bows shot close to the bows weight and some needed stiffer arrows.Your BW is cut past center,so you may need a stiffer spine, like maybe 70-75# spine.

I shoot 80-85# woodies with 145 gr. points from my 55# @ 28.5" BWs. They fly good from my MA, PL, PSR, PCH models at that draw weight.

My buddy shoot 70-75# woodies with 125 gr. points at that weight range with his BW and they fly great also.

My suggestion is to increase the spine of your shafts and experiment with different point weights.

Good luck!

BWs seem to like a heavy spine arrow so I would go with a 70-75 and try to keep the tip weight at 125..Start at 30.5 and trim 1/2 inch at a time until you get to good bare shaft..Add 3x5 feathers and you should be in the ballpark...

Get Stu's Calculator and that should help you figure out what woodies you need. My guess would be 65-70's with 150 or 190 up front.  Here's a link:

Once you get this, you won't loose any more sleep over your arrow selection... trust me, I know, I have...

Eric, you may need to go as high as 80-85# with a BW and that much arrow length.

Thanks I will start trying some heavier shafts.
