Iam thinking of getting a 68 inch longbow. Are there any extra problems associated with having
one this long? My longest bow at the moment is 62
inches;and most are shorter;some quite a bit shorter. If I get it this bow will be longer than
I am tall--lol.I also have a short draw of 26-27 inches.

b.glass

I am 5'1"ish and it seems the longer ones are a little more difficult to string. What is the poundage you are thinking about?

It is supposed to be---57@27.

My 3 longbows are 66" but have had up to 70". I dont notice any real difference other than the longer ones were smoother to draw and shoot.

What kind of longbow,a straght limb Hill style?I draw 27" and have had Hill's from 66" to 70" and I prefer a 66" in the Hill style.And I like a 66" in a mild R/D also.But in higher R/D bows I like a 62" bow.

SpankyNeal

What John said! If it's a Hill style you will lose considerable performance with a 68" bow if you draw less than 28". You would be much better served with a 66"er!

sawtoothscream

im a short armed guy and only about 5'8" and i love my 66" hybrid. just shoot it realy well and its really fast.

than again i also shoot my 56" one almost just as good

only thing is the 66" is a little more annoying to stump with in the heavy woods i hunt annd tree stand wise it will only work in a few of my stands were the shorter one will work in all.

Stumpkiller

Mine is 72", almost as tall as I am (75").  They're supposed to be as tall as you are - otherwise they'd just be called "bows".

Some will tell you that it is a matter of draw length more than your height when it comes to longbows. Too long and you may lose cast. Too short and it may stack or not be as smooth. Pup

After posting this thread, I picked up a 68" bow:

I love my 68" bow. I have not tried hunting with it except rabbits and stumps yet though. Not any different as far as being cumbersome than my 64" bow.

I love shooting it although I love shooting all my bows.

Two of my all time favorite bows are 68" and I draw a little over 26".  If you are in doubt about the reach strength for the longer ones get a bow loader right away.  there really is not much difference in how you would use a 68 versus a 66, when compare to a 62" there is for me a noticeable difference for how I shoot when sitting on my butt on the ground.  that is about the only shot that I avoid when using the longer bows.

Raging Water

I love the loooong bow. Much easier to shoot.

Smoother draw, no stacking, and I find I am much more accurate.

P. S. (I am 5'9" - on a good hair day)

Red Tailed Hawk

I have a 75" selfbow that i draw to 31.5". Real smooth on the draw, lot's of fun shooting them real long longbows.

I really like the 68"ers...so smooth and accurate.
