Prep tool.....

Is it a must that I use one of those prep wrasps for inserts before gluing the insert into a carbon shaft or can I just glue them in?  Il be using Bohning insert Iron glue,GT trad shafts.  Figured Id check before spending the $14 bucks on something I wont use. Thanks for any help!
