Hey guys, I need some help with transporting my tree stand. I hike in a couple miles and just regular back pack straps leave me with a real sore back. Someone suggested a pack with a waist belt?  Do any of you know what these are called?

I saw lone wolf made one, is there an alternative less expensive? Thanks
Blessings,
Steve

I have never tried it but I would think any frame pack could be made to work. Army serplus on the cheap or pawn shop.

You can rig it to an Army surplus A.L.I.C.E pack frame.  I mounted just the waist frame/belt and straps to this one. Works really well.  There are bunches of surplus frames on the big auction site.

Wow AP, that's a great setup.

Another thing to consider, if you decide to go the full on frame back method, it could pull double duty packing out quarters after you kill something.  Especially if you're that far from any beaten path.

LL Bean makes one as well that is a bit more versatile.

You could also use a Moelle backpack harness (with or without the frame).

It's not specifically made to pack a stand, but during a trip to NM earlier this month I strapped a stand and climbing sticks to my Eberlestock X2 pack and it carried really well.  I just used the straps that are part of the pack itself - no ropes or extra straps to mess with.  It made for a solid and easy to carry load.

I just use backpack straps and a full pack hip belt-pretty much like Apex. You can just attach it directly to the stand.  Make sure that the shoulder straps have a sternum strap. I also wear a turkey vest with all my stuff instead of a pack. Pockets keep things organized and the styro-foam in the back of the vest cushions the stand as well.

Bears can attack people- although fewer people have been killed by bears than in all WWI and WWII combined.
