painting limbs

i got some limbs cheap for my ilf now that i decided that i love the way they feel,and shoot think they need a color change...how do you do it?Do i need to scuff it up...no clue help me out

I used camo tape to cover my limbs, ILF or not.

I am restoring an old Black Widow HF which is all black.   I just ordered some Duracoat paint and some flex agent to mix with it.  It looks pretty durable and I have heard that it works well.  I guess I won't know for sure until I try it myself.

I have used Krylon camo paint and then a light coat of Deft Satin over for durability....had great luck with it! Just lightly steel wool and clean with a bit of alcohol.

it would cost more to have dipped than what they cost,,,got them cheap cheap,,almost stole em..anyone use those limbstations....

I'd just spray em black with the cheapest spray paint I could find. When that dries, you could hold some oak leaves, or what ever grows around your house, over them and hit them with green or brown paint. Works just fine and cheap too. DB

I have used the linbsations before. They work well and they have them in about any color/pattern you could think of.

Limbstations are a good solution, and can be removed if you decide later you want another change.

If you decide to go with the paint, it depends whether you want this to be a more permanent job, or one that you can remove later.  If permanent, rough up the surface a bit first with sandpaper and the paint will adhere much better.

I just use flat black or olive drab krylon.

If you want beautiful textured black go to NAP and get yourself a can of spray-on bedliner and it will stay on the bow or gun.

I think the limbsations is a great idea.But if you decide to do the paint thing,steel wool it then use a good primer,and then make a stencil for a camo pattern you would like and lay a base coat of drab gray or green and when it's dry use the stencil to give it a pattern with black and darker green colors.Make the stencil edges larger than the bow limbs so you don't get over spray on any area you dont want it.And then you can hit it with a poly spray in a satin or flat finish. And let it dry in between all coats of paint(most important step of all). There was a thread some time ago about this do a search and try and find it.

I have heard good things about duracoat paint. Works good without priming.

If you want permanent follow Whip's directions. If you want to clean the bow up from time to time simply give the bow a good coat of paste wax and apply paint lightly.

I use cheap spray primers from WalMart and have no trouble getting it off.

I like a base coat of gray, then mix and match over that.

A lot of the factory recurves in the late 60's and early 70's were gloss finished. It was very common for us to use techinques above to camo our bows. I remember these little cans of "Bow Flage" I think it was called?  Basically, flat blacks, browns, and greens.  You can use plastic leaves and ferns from your wife's centerpiece (whoops-maybe buy em)to spray around (base coat and then tape on the leaves and spray again.

My buddy and I about to have at least one bow and 1 set of limbs dipped in Predator by BigJim after seeing some of his work displayed by folks here. I'm still waiting on the bow or limbs that I'll have done.

ok when i used to paint the limbs of my Bows i used a paint called Blackboard paint i would paint the Black Board Black on first then Black Board Brown in strips and followed by Black Board Green. and it worked so well i put my Bow down and lost it how stupid was that.     but it does work.
