I got one heckuvan invitation to go moose hunting up in New Brunswick!!!  I will apply for a tag today!!  If I draw, and of course get a moose, what can y'all tell me about getting meat, antlers, cape etc home to Mo???  The taxidermist up there said he can flesh, salt and ship from there, any ideas on cost?  How about shipping cost for half of the meat???

For there you might think about driving up and bringing the moose back.

I had thought about driving, but I'm at least 30 hrs away... It would add too many days away from work and home. 4 hard days travel time as oppossed to two easy days!!!

When I went to Newfoundland I brought meat back as extra checked bags.  I think I brought 200#'s.

when i went to Newfoundland 10 years ago..its been awhile...i shipped it back as freight to St Louis 445 pounds and total cost was 230 dollars it was frozen in waxed boxes and was still frozen when i picked it up at airport...dont know what it would be now..

Well without driving you need to look at Air Cargo.  You are dealing with a foreign country and their rules and regs.  I'm a shipper with Alaska Airlines and sent 500# of moose and the rack home from Alaska this year.  If you go that route start now.  It takes a bit and a few dollars to get it done.

It has become a lot harder since 911.

Thanks guys!!  Filled out the app today!!!  Will see what happens!!  I do have a connection in Maine that might make shipping it easier!!

I killed an elk in Saskatchewan. The airlines let me carry the antlers and cape back on the plane (there was specific packaging for the antlers; no exposed points, etc). The meat was processed up there and cost a FORTUNE to have shipped to my house in Texas via truck. Like Mike said, it might be cheaper to drivr up there and bring it all back yourself.

I was in NB this past May bear hunting. i saw moose every day and one night while driving back to the lodge we saw 5 in 1/2 mile of road! Good luck on drawing a tag!

Brad, I was up there with Jim and I believe the locals said it was about one in one hundred chance of draw for their two day season. Resident and non were in the same draw pool. Up there, the entire extended family would apply and still low odds of one of them drawing. Good luck and good hunting if you draw.
