Would you gain a lot of speed and less wind deflection by switching from 5" Shields to 4" Bananas or another low profile design?  Would you lose the stability and quick correction of the 5" shields?

bawana bowman

I switched from 5" parabolic to 4". Only difference I notice... the 4" are much quieter than the 5's. As far as stabilizing the arrow, if there is a difference, I can't see it.

as long as your arrows are tunes wont make difference

Going from 3-5" to 4-4" equals one more inch of total feather. As Bawana said the only noticeable difference was sound to me as well. I shoot wide Magnus I's.

I tend to shoot either 4" parabolics or 4.750" shields......right now I'm using shields. My only real noticeable difference it the longer shields tend to stabilize a larger profile broadhead a bit better, but there's probably some here who would disagree with that statement. Just my personal prefference is all, and basically that's probably what it will come down to for you?

Try the shorter feathers for awhile and if you don't get along with them or they don't stabilize your BH's then simply switch back to what works.

I would suggest only refletching one of your arrows first or maybe two?
Just in case you decide to go back to the originals.

Define "a lot of speed". The answer is probably not a "lot".

I switched to 4-4" some time ago. I love them. Then I received some 4.5" natural turkey feather fletchings and gave them a try. Very quiet with this chop and they fly great. I have tried some lower profile fletchings in the 4" and they weren't as stable in flight. I will stick with a higher profile, or better said, a regular profile with anything less than 5".
