homemade cresting??

does anybody ever try to crest their carbon arrows with sharpie markers or paint pens or whatever ?? (i.e. not with fancy cresting kit from Bohning ) if so, how do you do it ( with what materials) thanks

I've seen posts on here where guys use a cordless drill, a block of wood and sharpie's. I've also seen them use paint pens. Make sure the shafts have been cleaned with denatured alcohol before cresting and spray a clear coat over it to protect it from wear.

I cap dip mine with Krylon, crest with Tester's model paint and use water based poly to seal them.

I don't know that this would work on a carbon shaft, but there used to be a silver marker we wrote with on 3-1/2" diskette cases and it was amazingly permanent once dry.  It would look very good on a dark shaft.  They come in a fine and a meduium.

If you don't like the expense of Bohning any old model paint will do. Sharpie makes a paint pen that works pretty well.

addendum- with the pens I had use them over the dip. They did not cover well on raw shaft.

Put on a solid white wrap and then use a sharpie marker or some testor model paint.I use wraps on all my carbon arrows,makes them so much easier to redo later without having to scrape off old or damaged feathers.

Testor's paint works well...needs to be thinned at times ...

Something I have been using for years is automotive pinstripping tape.It comes in alot of different colors and configurations and sticks very well.Look in your local auto parts store(o'riley,auto zone,advance)Good Luck!

suspend the shaft bewteen two rollers of sorts, hold the marker in the spot of your choice, spin it once or twice by hand and let it dry. Sounds logical......maybe? I mounted an old cordless on a 1 x 4 x 24 board and use artist paints. Very cheap and very easy.
