Had a really nice 8 point come in at about 20 yards. He set himself up perfectly, letting me draw as he walked passed a little cedar tree.

As soon as he cleared the tree, I let her go, and this ninja deer dropped instantly. You know how sometimes your arrows all of a sudden seem reaallllllly slow. Well it was one of those times. LOL Clean miss.

Anyway I put the bow down, to go get my arrow before my Arrow Attention Deficit Disorder kicked in. I find it, pick it up, turn around, and about 30 ft away another nice buck is standing right there. LOL

I am kinda behind another cedar tree, but he knows somethings there, but this portly fellow is not all that concerned. Did I mention, I had put my bow down...about 40 yards away. LOL

So anyway theres no getting out of this situation, and I think "Well maybe I'll just get on all fours and crawl to my bow. He might think, I'm a hog or something." LOL yeah right.

This guy just watches me crawl 40 yards to my bow. I came within 15 feet of the guy, totally out in the open, and he just watched me! Until I put my hand on my bow that is. Then he slowly walked away. DANGIT!      :knothead:

Oh well. It was fun!

That would have been very funny to see (the crawling part not the missing part). Quit a few years ago my Dad put his bow down and walked 10 yards to do his business in a creek. As he sat there with his drawers around his ankles looking like a constipated dog a nice 8 pointer (he would have shot) came past him at 15 yards with his nose to the ground. Hahaha.

That right there is pretty funny KentuckTJ.

The buck I missed this morning had his nose to the ground too...I really thought I had him. But he was a ninja buck...those are harder to get. LOL

But his bow will remain steady, and his hands will be skillful; because of the hands of the Mighty One of Jacob, because of the Shepherd, the Rock of Israel,  (Genesis 49:24 [NETfree])

That's the way it always works when you don't have your weapon in hand.  Thanks for sharing.

And the lesson here...........never put your bow down!!!
In the beginner's mind there are many possibilities. In the expert's there are few...So the most difficult thing is always to keep your beginner's mind...This is also the real secret of the arts: always be a beginner.  Shunryu Suzuki

Yep! and aim low. LOL But the season is young, and I'm feeling my mojo coming on.

Rank Bull,
He must of thought you were a female deer and was checking you out for his mate...Never ever get on all fours during pre rut...  "[dntthnk]"

Now that is a cool story! no kills but had to be a load a laughs. That buck is tellin the story right now "Ya shoulda seen this nut? Yeah I let him get his hand on his bow!"

Sounds like a blast!

Juan,

Never forget that experience , #1 Like they say never put your bow down ,Learn to take at least a drag string if you have to.

My very first time deer hunting in Indiana in 1973 , I crawled up on a group of 4 does,I got with in 15 yards and shot over the biggest one ,Every so often I just put my head down like I was eating .It sounds goofy ,But it works ,I have done it many time since that time ,And each time I've gotten within 20 to 15 yards,Every movement needs to be slow but for a purpose   ,It was the best experience I've ever had in learning something about the deer .

But ,I do see that you are from Texas ,I'd be cautious on what you are crawling up too !

LOL...Now that would have been funny to have on video.

Once I was camping and in order to get out on the cellphone you had to walk to the top of a hill. You could walk about 50 yards from camp uphill and get a signal. So 1 day I walked up hill to call thinking(I won't see anything anyway)So I didn't take my bow.I got up there and called my mom and I'm on the phone talking to her and I hear running coming from my right and I know the sound of deer running so I tell my mom "hold on there's deer coming".First a Doe walks by me slowly at 15 yards,Then an 8 pointer, then a lil later a spike and all close enough to throw a spear at.Nothing I could do.So after they went on I said "can you hear me now?"And ma was still there and she couldn't believe it either. These are how my personal hunting stories go.DEER!!!
