Hey guys,

Let me first say that I have enjoyed gleaning knowledge from everyone one here at the gang. I have learned a great deal of useful information.

After having searched the archives and read all the info and arrow charts I could find, I have a question regarding arrow spine.

I just purchased new to me bw psa 43 @ 28. I draw right at 28 and I am wanting to order some carbon arrows for the new rig. I read about extreme foc and have been leaning toward a 100 gr. brass insert with a 100 grain tip.

Is this too much weight up front? If so, what do you recommend?

What arrow spine do you suggest? I was leaning toward an easton st epic 500, but would like advice before I order something.   :help:

I would love to hear what you use if you have a similar setup.

Any info. is greatly appreciated!

Try Stuart Spine calculator, it's always a great place to start.

My limbs are: #45@28/w 17" riser and I have those mounted to a 23" riser and pull 30" so I assume it's around #42...

GT 3555, 100gr inserts with 125gr tips, Std GT nocks and 3x4" tru-flite feathers.  Best bet would be to visit a local bow shop, buy an arrow, and try different inserts and bare shaft/chop until you get something that works.  Bare shafting my setup they shoot weak spine but after adding fletchings they fly like a dart so no changes.

Stus calculator will get you real close and allows you to consider various options.
You might want to read    tuning longbows and recurves  also.

Between the two you should be able to make educated decisions and get carbons and a setup that will work for you.

Gold Tip 3555 or 1535, depending on how long you want them.

You certainly want to foot your carbons if you haven't already. They become just about invincible with footings.
I lost a few before I footed them when the insert got rammed into the shaft and split the end.

Noah, welcome aboard. Stu's is a good starting point as mentioned above. Give me a shout neighbor. Good shooting!   :campfire:

if you are trying to achieve EFOC and your bow is cut to center, Thin .500 spine arrows will probably be too weak. Even in a fatter 5/16"shaft it might be close. I'd try a .400 shaft full length with the tip weight youhave and if weak cut the shaft 1/4"at a time until it tunes. If Stiff then you can either try a .500 shaft or add some tip weight.

I'm shooting 652gr .300 spine 30" arrows with 430 gr total up front and my FOC is about 33%

The quest to improve is so focused on a few design aspects & compensating for hunter ineptness as to actually have reduced a bow & arrow's effectiveness. Nothing better demonstrates this than mech. BHs & speed fixated designs
