Was scouting and found a bed in thick cover (one in same place last year), the only bed in the area. Very large and well matted down.
When a buck finds a good spot will they use the very same bed daily?
Of course it is well placed and not easily approached. Not easy to see how he gets in though!
How would hunt him? I'm thinking of glassing from afar to see if i can catch how he enters and exits.

until you mess with it. You should not go into bedding areas during the season.

A big buck is sensitive about such things and there must be 'some' sanctuary for them to remain in a location. Otherwise he'll switch locations.

Ray is exactly right. You may try to hunt the bed but you will only have one chance and if unsuccessful lose a valuable bit of patterning. My own experience is you cannot usually get close enough to these type beds to ever get a good shot.

I hunt the fringes of bedding areas to keep the pressure off and stands are set downwind. It used to be tempting to go in esp when you see bucks pushing the doe around inside of those spots.

You can see it in a couple different ways.
1. You go in and have success
2. You go in, blow out the spot and loose seeing game all season long.

If you have the time, stay on the edges and it will be a matter of time before that bucks crosses your path. If your very limited on time, going in might be your only shot but it's very likely your presence will spook them out after 3 hunts.

IMO, if a good buck feels safe inside that area, he will continue to bed there for the duration of his life. Big bucks esp in pressured areas are pretty choosy when it comes to where they sleep.
Just one more step please!

Sound advice.  I would add that this time of fall it's more likely that the bucks will leave their core areas more and especially right prior to the breeding phase will be locked onto does and where they bed.  If you could spend one evening glassing this lone bed, great.  More likely though I'd note the location of this bed and hunt the downwind edge post-rut, or set up a stand site in the spring for next early season.  Today I'd be looking for funnels to and from doe bedding areas and not this particular bed.  It'll be easier to set up without aleting him.

I have a friend (Denny Ballard) that I used to team teach an adult education class with on bow hunting Missouri whitetails.

Denny always preached to the class that "You have got to leave them some place to go." and that meant stay out of their bedroom.

I found that to be very sound advice and some I try to follow unless a blood trail drags me into it...lol

Been my experience a big mature buck will use the same spot to bed over and over. Bump him once and he might come back.....bump him twice and you'll never see him there again. If you can glass from a good distance undetected that's the way to go. Then set up to catch him going to or coming from his bed!

OK here is another option, but you only get one chance at him.At midday, put a climbing stand on your back and approach from downwind and try and jump him.You must lay eyes on the buck and know you jumped him from his bed.Chances are he will go crosswind on his escape. Immed. quarter downwind 40 or 50 yds. and get up in your climber and wait. He should return in about 45 min. I know of a few good bucks taken with this unorthadox approach. One guy has taken 3 nice ones this way. Including the one in my avatar, although I shot him on the ground.

that last quote was aggressive and to kill a buck about an hour after jumping him would be AWESOME!!!!

ive jumped does already that came back, that buck will soon leave for the rut i would think too

it doesnt hurt to get aggressive sometimes
